Watershed-Integrated Sciences Partnership (WISP)  The WISP Program partners the Environmental Science Department and College of Education of the University of Massachusetts Boston with three urban school districts located within the Neponset River Watershed. Using the watershed as the content theme, WISP seeks to develop science graduate students' knowledge of, skills in, and commitment to K–12 education. The project also aims to increase middle school teachers' content knowledge and reflective practice, and motivate middle school students' interest in and knowledge of environmental sciences. For more information, contact Bob Chen.

The Center of Science and Mathematics in Context (COSMIC) COSMIC is a joint venture of the Graduate College of Education and the College of Science and Mathematics at UMass Boston. The mission of COSMIC is to advance high quality teaching and learning in science and math for all students at K-12, university undergraduate, and graduate levels. The goals of COSMIC are to provide support for science and math teachers, develop and evaluate curriculum and assessment materials, provide professional development, strengthen the pipeline toward science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, conduct research on the effectiveness of our interventions, and create partnerships with school districts, industry, government, and non-governmental organizations.  For more information about COSMIC professional development opportunities please visit or contact Arthur Eisenkraft

Boston Harbor Educators' Conference Each year, educators gather to learn the latest on how to incorporate learning about the Harbor into their teaching.   The theme for this year's annual conference (to be held on Saturday, October 14, 2006)  is Boston Harbor: A Link to the Past and a Promise for the Future. The day will feature dynamic speakers, hands-on workshops, exciting exhibits and field trips. Please join us at the University of Massachusetts campus overlooking the beautiful and now much cleaner Boston Harbor.  For registration and more information, please contact Gail Brookings.
